The history of Newtown Musical Theatre Company
1980 - Members of Newtown Methodist Church decide to fundraise to build a new modern church, replacing the 1835 original.
1982 - After moving to All Saints whilst singing some songs outside the chapel one evening (the fundraising idea came to them!)
1983 - “Trial by jury” is performed raising £600!
1983 - 'Newtown & District Churches Amateur Operatic Society' is formed.
1989 - 'Newtown Operatic Society.' is chosen as the new name.
1993 - “Oklahoma!” is the first Broadway show performed by the society.
2000 - “Anything goes” is performed.
2000 - “Newtown Musical Theatre Company” - a new name for the new millennium.
2000 - The decision is made to perform two shows per year, one in spring and one in autumn.
2000 - First autumn show is performed - “sing for your supper” at Newtown high school.
2001 - PRESENT DAY - All shows have been performed at The Hafren.
